GIS

Geographic information system (GIS) provides a geography-based visual approach to problem solving and thinking about environmental and planning issues. GIS has the capability to integrate knowledge and data from multiple sources to create an environment for decision makers and stakeholders to collaborate. The GIS staff has more than 20 years of GIS experience. The GIS group is experienced with all aspects of GIS application, including initial geodatabase design and creation, data conversion, global positioning system (GPS) field data acquisition and verification, plant community mapping, slope and aspect studies, visibility impact analysis, network efficiency studies, and large- and small-scale impact analyses. 


Sapphos Environmental, Inc. has focused its GIS expertise on the development of spatial and relational databases that can be used for analysis by professionals on a variety of project scales. Sapphos Environmental, Inc. works closely with clients to ensure high-quality GIS deliverables that conform to client needs and data format requirements. Sapphos Environmental, Inc.’s GIS manager is responsible for scope development, tasking, cost estimation, coordination, quality assurance, and implementation of all GIS-based projects. Sapphos Environmental, Inc.’s biological and cultural resources staff are proficient with GPS and GIS applications for use in data capture, querying and analysis for specialized biological studies and cultural resources surveys, and environmental compliance issues. 


Sapphos Environmental, Inc. has an in-house GIS department that uses ESRI-based software that includes Arc View and Arc Editor licenses and associated extensions, including Spatial Analyst, 3d Analyst, Network Analyst, and Publisher. The GIS department also has two Trimble submeter GPS units for the collection of spatial data in the field and an Epson Stylus Pro 9800 large-format plotter for map and graphics production. Sapphos Environmental, Inc. has the capability to perform many types of analysis and cartographic representation in support of a vast array of projects. In addition to GIS, Sapphos Environmental, Inc. also has a professional graphics department that utilizes the Adobe suite of software, including Illustrator and Photoshop. These GIS and graphics capabilities enable Sapphos Environmental, Inc. to create professional, accurate maps and graphics for all documents produced by Sapphos Environmental, Inc.
