Sapphos Environmental, Inc.’s team of archaeologists provide a full range of services related to historic and prehistoric archaeology and paleontology, including records searches, surveys, significance evaluations, data recovery excavations and analyses, site recordation and nominations, construction monitoring and reporting, collection management, and consultation with agency personnel. These services emphasize the development of strategies to comply with federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations, including California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and National Historic Preservation Act Sections 106 and 110, as well as design and implementation of mitigation plans.
Sapphos Environmental, Inc. helps its clients meet their goals by combining extensive cultural resources consultation experience with state-of-the-art techniques and equipment, such as geographic information system (GIS) analysis, ground-penetrating radar (GPR), and magnetometry surveys. This combination of experience and technology allows Sapphos Environmental, Inc. to effectively work with project proponents and engineers during the early stages of the planning process to make preliminary assessments of cultural resources that may be present in the project area. As a result, site plans can often be developed that avoid impacts to many resources, thereby reducing overall costs of project development and facilitating regulatory approvals.
The firm has excellent working relationships with the State Office of Historic Preservation, the California State Lands Commission, local and state historic commissions and advocacy groups, the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, and the National Park Service, and coordinates with the Native American Heritage Commission on all projects involving the consideration of cultural resources. In addition, the firm has undertaken extensive coordination with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and other federal agencies to conduct surveys on federal lands and to develop avoidance measures and mitigation plans for archaeological sites located on federal lands.
