Environmental Compliance Specialist (CEQA/NEPA)

Sapphos Environmental, Inc. is seeking an experienced CEQA/NEPA Specialist capable of project and client management in the establishment of project scope, controls, and delivery. The ideal candidate will exhibit a strong grasp of permitting procedures, impact assessment, and mitigation measures as they apply to CEQA/NEPA projects. This person will also be responsible for generating new work, sponsoring other staff’s individual projects, and serving in an advisory capacity when working in conjunction with other departments.

Responsibilities

  • Independently lead and prepare CEQA/NEPA documents.
  • Preparation of impact analysis, working closely with EA analysts, sub-consultants, and project managers. 
  • Prepares reports, recommendations, assessments, and impact statements based on data from the project at hand. 
  • Provide planning support to complex projects.
  • Collaborates with engineers to research, analyze, and resolve complex environmental compliance challenges. 
  • Responsible for project setup, project delivery, project controls, business development, client satisfaction, and profitability.
  • Mentor junior staff.
  • Develop and manage key client relationships locally and in Southern California.
  • Initiate, prepare, and review proposals.
  • Prepare project deliverables and project-related correspondence.
  • Direct and prepare Initial Studies, Negative Declarations, Environmental Impact Reports, Environmental Assessments, Environmental Impact Statements, and supporting technical studies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental science or a closely related field is required.
  • Possesses in-depth knowledge of CEQA/NEPA regulatory framework and its proper compliance. 
  • 8+ years of experience in managing and providing environmental consulting services to project developers in support of project siting, design, and permit applications is essential. 
  • Local, state, and federal compliance and permitting experience is required. 
  • Experience providing or managing technical services in a professional service setting, preferably in the Southern California area. 
  • Experience in leadership, project management, staff supervision and mentoring, and client management.
  • Experience in a client-facing role (including business development and/or client management).
  • Demonstrated experience in managing major key clients and key client accounts and directing key client penetration strategies, opportunity tracking, and development.
  • Strong written and oral communication.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is determined by level of education and experience.
