Field Archaeologist

Sapphos Environmental, Inc., a growing environmental, planning, and resource management company located in Pasadena, is currently recruiting an on-call archaeologist to join our expanding Cultural Resources Group. 

Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily archaeological monitoring during construction project
  • Report and coordinate any inadvertent discoveries with project manager
  • Maintain daily notes, photos, and logs of monitoring activity and collect GPS data of areas monitored

Requirements

  • Experience in California cultural resources management with a working command of federal and state cultural resources statutes
  • Operational knowledge of the prehistory and history of California and the Southwest
  • Experience in the inventory and evaluation of prehistoric and historic archaeological resources
  • Background in paleontology not required but would be desirable
  • Demonstrated writing and research abilities
  • Ability to use computer hardware, software, and other related information technologies for extended periods on a daily basis
  • Knowledge of GPS data collection equipment

Other Skills

The ideal candidate must be detail-oriented, have a professional demeanor and strong organizational skills, and possess the ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and multitask in a fast-paced environment. The candidate should be able to work in a team environment with a variety of project members and manage tasks as delegated by project lead. The candidate must possess strong communication skills, the ability to work closely with clients, and be able to supervise the work of others.

Minimum Requirements

The successful candidate will have a BA/BS degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or closely related, and will have a minimum of 2 years of field experience. Register of Professional Archaeologists (RPA) status is desirable. A record of professional research and publication will be favorably viewed.
